House of the Dragon’s first season is a great start to a long-term story, but there are points where the series definitely needs to improve going forward.
The first season of House of the Dragon ended with a loss from the “Black” side, marking a season that can be considered good and attractive, but not truly perfect.
House of the Dragon has made smart changes
With episode 10, House of the Dragon closes the first season of another long-running series from the world of Game of Thrones. The war for the throne, like any other war, started with the deaths of innocent lives from episode 9 until now. But perhaps it wasn’t until the final episode of season one that Rhaenyra had to endure the greatest pain – losing her two children in a short time because of the bad news coming from King’s Landing. The harshness of Westeros has never been merciful to the women here, both commoners and royals. It’s ironic that we all know this won’t be the only pain that befalls the queen.
Set about 150 years before the events of Game of Thrones, House of the Dragon takes viewers to the momentous civil war that forever crippled the Targaryen dynasty in Westeros. How ironic that the Dance of the Dragons took place when the dynasty was at the height of its power, but the death of the dragon Balerion during the reign of Jaehaerys I signaled the end of the greatness of Old Valyria. end.
House of the Dragon tells the story of the event that crippled Targaryen for the remaining years of his reign
Episode 10 puts the Blacks in the spotlight, how they react to the news of Viserys’ death and the sudden succession of Aegon II. The episode also highlights the injustice that has never disappeared in the world of Game of Thrones and the true faces of those who dream of the throne themselves and have never shed blood for it. Life is like that, honor, duty, glory or promises are all meaningless before the temptation of power. It’s a never-ending spiral. Perhaps that’s why Laenor was right when he chose to leave, leaving behind things that only brought him untold pain. Laenor’s lucky end was not kind to the children who remained on either side. Whether Blue or Black, their fate is determined by those who aspire to sit on the Iron Throne.
The first season of House of the Dragon ended on a dark and bloody note, but it took the series’ quality to a whole new level. The episodes regularly present engaging and thrilling storylines, with the focus still being on the characters of the show. However, the film’s rhythm is an imperfect element here. House of the Dragon is definitely more rushed than the first season of Games of Thrones, despite its more controlled storytelling. However, compared to its rival The Rings of Power, the movie is definitely far superior in quality. However, rhythm is still the series’ weakest point.
Ok, better than The Rings of Power
It is incomprehensible that Game of Thrones still conveys almost all of the original books without needing time-jumping periods like House of the Dragon. When the jump-cut segments happen too much, it becomes more difficult for viewers to connect with any of the characters, they simply have to learn again how to distinguish who is who in the new timeline. Perhaps the thing that makes the writer regret the most is the expensive details that the film skipped to meet a virtual “deadline” that the audience could not imagine. They may not be able to advance the story, but they are huge emotional anchors, some even showing elements of the “poetry” of writer G.G Martin, who is a big fan of Tolkien’s works but has a unique perspective on the idealization Tolkien often brings to his characters in The Lord of the Rings.
The omission of the scene where Viserys connects with the peacock’s children or the separation of the twin knights Erryk and Arryk when both now worship two masters is something the writer cannot easily ignore. That’s why the writer deducted another point for the content of House of the Dragon.
Even the secondary duo has a chance to shine
Luckily, House of the Dragon still has aspects to excite. Of course they are dragons. We have seen an “appetizer” battle between dragons. And now with the love the first season received, the production team may be even more aggressive for the next season, which marks the climax of Dragon Dance.
The acting in House of the Dragon certainly cannot be criticized. The actors tried to bring their characters to life with all their abilities. Most prominent are Matt Smith, Emma D’Arcy and Paddy Considine with the trio Daemon, Rhaenyra and Viserys Targayen. Of course, the supporting characters are no less competitive.
In general, moviegoers cannot wait for season 2 with more intense details waiting to be adapted. It is definitely another tragic and heroic song of the Fantasy genre. But, House of the Dragon needs to cut down on “jumping around” and meeting deadlines, and above all, stop skipping expensive details!
