Here are 9 dragons you must pay attention to in House of the Dragon.
One thing we can never get enough of in Game of Thrones are dragons. We also enjoy the Stark wolves, but dragons always have a special place in the minds of fantasy lovers. After The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug, Game of Thrones may be the series that does a good job of creating these mythical beasts, until House of the Dragon appears.
House of the Dragon not only brings dragons back to the small screen, focusing on the period known as the Dance of the Dragons, the series will depict the fiery battles between the winged dragons and their masters. . This will be the most anticipated part in the movie, starting with episode 3 – when the series starts to heat up with the battle between Westeros and the pirate Crab Clipper, and Daemon is planning to overthrow his brother. But that is not the topic of this article.
Here, Moveek reviews the important dragons that you need to pay attention to in House of the Dragon. For they will be followed by decisive events in the deadly dance between the Targaryen dragons.
1. Syrax – Rhaenyra
Syrax is the first “baby” dragon to appear in the House of the Dragon series and is also the first dragon that viewers see flying in the sky of Westeros. Calling Syrax “baby” is not too strange because many details suggest that this is the youngest dragon in this series, with a size reminiscent of Drogon in the early days of Game of Thrones, that and the comment. of Rhaenyra that soon Syrax will be strong enough to carry both of them and will soon be as big as Caraxes.
As the female protagonist Rhaenyra’s dragon, the golden-scaled Syrax, described as not very battle-hardened, will certainly play an important role in the film, at least in protecting his female knight and is a key weapon in the war for the throne.
2. Caraxes – Daemon
When it comes to battle experience, Caraxes is a name not to be missed. This is a dragon that has many similarities with its second owner – Daemon, also an experienced and impulsive general.
Historically, Caraxes belonged to Aemon Targaryen, until he was killed. From then on, his grandson Daemon became the current rider of the old dragon, large and ferocious with a distinctive hiss, covered in a red shell and with a longer neck than the other dragons in the family. . It is these characteristics that give Caraxes the nickname Blood Wyrm (basically, that red worm). With Daemon as his rider, Caraxes was one of the most formidable dragons since the days of the great Balerion.
3. Meleys – Rhaenys
We never saw Meleys, but we did meet its rider – the uncrowned queen Rhaenys Targaryen. Known as The Red Queen, Meleys has bright red scales, is described as lazy, is larger than Vhagar, the oldest of the current Targaryen family, is very wise, but if provoked dynamic, it is a terrifying force. Meleys may appear in House of the Dragon. If the series sticks to the original, we will see the Uncrowned Queen riding Meleys fighting Queen Alicent Hightower’s faction in a battle for the throne. This also means that somewhere in the series, the Velaryon family – her husband’s family – ignored the current feud with King Viserys to side with Rhaenyra in the succession.
4. Sunfyre – Aegon II the Older
Sunfyre was also a young dragon in the era she was born in, but she was also incredibly large and was described as the most beautiful dragon that ever existed. With iridescent golden scales, and if the series really sticks to the original, Sunfyre also breathes golden fire similar to its scales. History also calls Sunfyre Sunfyre the Golden. This dragon will play a key role in perhaps the most shocking death in House of the Dragon.
5. Tessarion – Daeron
Daeron Targaryen was the younger brother of Aegon II and rode a female dragon named Tessarion. Tessarion, similar to Meleys, is called the Blue Queen due to its deep cobalt blue scales. Like Sunfyre, Tessarion’s fire matched the dragon’s scales – a brilliant blue flame. Tessarion also differs from other dragons in that his belly scales and claws are a bright bronze, contrasting with the dark blue that covers most of Tessarion’s body.
Daeron’s role was significant in the Targaryen civil war and the prince also joined his brother Aegon II against his sister Rhaenyra, so Tessarion will certainly be seen in at least one of the House of the Dragon. The death of this prince also brought many long-term troubles to Westeros.
6. Stormcloud – Aegon III the Younger
Rhaenyra at some point had children of her own
He and Aegon III were among them, and a pivotal figure in the dance of the dragons and the civil war that changed House Targaryen forever.
Aegon can also be called a dragonrider and his dragon is Stormcloud. There is no clear description of Stormcloud other than that it hatched when placed in the cradle of an infant Aegon. From there, the dragon connected with Aegon.
7. Vermax – Jacaerys Velaryon
Another child that cannot be ignored is Rhaenyra’s Jacaerys Velaryon – the first child between her and her cousin Ser Laenor Velaryon, the only son of Corlys and Rhaenys. As soon as she ascended the throne, she appointed her tactically talented eldest son Jacaerys Velaryon as crown prince to keep her power stable.
Jacaerys’s dragon was Vermax, a young dragon for his time and of extraordinary speed. Although the book does not describe the color of its scales, the Vermax is said to be prone to temper tantrums if exposed to cold, ice, and snow.
Jacaerys Velaryon is confirmed to appear in House of the Dragon, which means we will get to meet Vermax. The presence of both also represents the fact that the civil war between the Targaryens does not end in one generation and the longevity of this series. Of course, the two younger brothers and their two dragons will also be mentioned and this will be one of the most heartbreaking scenes in the movie.
8. Vhagar – Aemond the One Eye
One of the fiercest battles of Dance of the Dragon is the battle in the sky of Gods Eye. Of course, the only participants are the Targaryen dragons and their riders. This battle calls forth the legendary Caraxes and Vhagar.
Living since the time of the great Balerion, Vhagar was the dragon of Queen Visenya and had seen many years of battle, and had carried many riders. Among them was Aegon II’s most powerful arm – Aemond the One Eye, his second younger brother. Aemond’s nature from childhood was described as fierce, hot-tempered and unforgiving, talented in swordsmanship and a skilled warrior. So it’s no surprise that he was able to connect with Vhagar.
By the time of the Dance of the Dragons, Vhagar was the dragon that had survived a hundred battles, had grown almost as large as Balerion, and was the largest and oldest dragon in Westeros. Its roar is so powerful that it can shake the very foundations of Storm’s End. No living dragon can compare to Vhagar in size or ferocity.
Vhagar’s appearance was not officially described in the original, so moviegoers have to wait to see which dragon is Vhagar in the upcoming House of the Dragon. But the battle between Vhagar and Caraxes, the two most powerful dragons of that time, will definitely take place as a display of the series’ magnificence.
9. Seasmoke – Leanor Valeryon
In addition, the dragons that can be seen in the series include Seasmoke, a young and agile dragon of Leanor Valeryon – who will later be the husband of Princess Rhaneryra. Seasmoke lived during the time when the Targaryens were fighting for the throne, but was described as a dragon with a gentle personality. Of course, its ending could not have been much better than other dragons who died in battle.
The appearance of Seasmoke in episode 3 also signals the possibility that Vermithor – the dragon named Bronze Fury, will also appear. This was Seasmoke’s opponent in the battle to defend King’s Landing during Rhaenyra’s reign.
