Han Solo’s first ex Lady Qi’ra just made a surprising return in the brand new Star Wars: War of the Bounty Hunters storyline.
As Boba Fett tries to reacquire the stolen frozen body of Han Solo, the person responsible for stealing the Rebel hero has been revealed: Qi’ra from Solo: A Star Wars Story. Solo’s ex has been revealed to be the mastermind behind the stolen bounty from Fett, as she intends to use it to gain more power for the newly reformed Crimson Dawn.
Qi’ra first debuted in Solo: A Star Wars Story, where she was played by actress Emilia Clarke. In the movie, Qi’ra and Solo were together when she was kidnapped by Imperial Forces. Eventually, Han would go on a mission to steal from the Crimson Dawn Syndicate, where he learned Qi’ra is one of the leaders of the criminal organization. After appearing as Han’s ally early in the film, she kills her boss Vos and makes a shocking call to Darth Maul – who it turns out is the leader of the real Crimson Dawn. She betrays Han in order to fight alongside Maul.
In Star Wars: War of the Bounty Hunters #1 by Charles Soule, Luke Ross, Neeraj Menon, and VC’s Travis Lanham, Boba Fett is furious after learning the carbonite body of Han Solo was stolen from him on Nar Shadaa. On Tattooine, he discovers Jabba thought he was taking too long to retrieve his bounty and hired someone else to pick it up after thinking Fett sold it. Jabba’s underlings show Fett the invitation he received from the people who stole his bounty. After announcing the return of the Crimson Dawn, a mysterious person in white robes says they captured him as a “gesture of goodwill.” On the ship, the person in the white reveals their true identity as Qi’ra.
The return of Qi’ra and the Crimson Dawn is an unexpected plot point. Qi’ra realizes how Solo has deep connections to both the Rebel Alliance and the Empire and understands he’s got tremendous value. She’s using the stolen bounty to get in the good books of Jabba. While staring at Han’s frozen body, she says “Han always wanted to save me. Now he’ll get his chance.”
The comic reveals Qi’ra played a surprising role in the bounty of Han Solo. Stealing from Fett is a bold move considering he won’t rest until the person who made him look like a fool is put down for good. The return of the Crimson Dawn is bad news for the rest of the galaxy. Just how did Qi’ra gain control of the organization from Darth Maul? Will she meet Princess Leia? Big things are about to go down with Fett and the return of Qi’ra. Star Wars: War War of the Bounty Hunters is in stores now.
