“Siphoning gas from Charlie’s car”: Two and a Half Men Fans Point Out 5 Instances Jon Cryer’s Alan Harper Was a Legendary Cheapskate

Jon Cryer’s Alan Harper became annoying to fans as the seasons went by.

Two and a Half Men was an iconic American sitcom that aired in 2003 and ran for 12 seasons before controversies forced the show to shut down. Starring Charlie Sheen and Jon Cryer in lead roles, the show was loved by the world.

With Sheen portraying Charlie Harper and Cryer portraying the role of Alan Harper, the two brothers are quite the opposite. Throughout the show, Jon Cryer’s Alan Harper is shown as a cheapskate. Well, here are five moments that scream ‘misery’.

Jon Cryer’s Alan Harper Was A Cheapskate

While it was a conscious decision from the writers that Jon Cryer’s Alan Harper would be a cheapskate, fans actually enjoyed Harper’s ways of saving money at the beginning of the show.

As the seasons progressed, however, Alan Harper became more and more of an annoying person whining about money. Fans took to Reddit to discuss the important issue of what’s the cheapest thing Alan Harper did in the series, and the answers are quite hilarious.

Taking 100 Dollars

When Alan arrives at Walden’s house during Season 9 Episode 22, he suffers a heart attack. Initially, Walden believes that this is just a prank and hovers a 100-dollar bill over Harper’s head. When he realizes that Alan Harper is actually suffering a heart attack, he rushes to call 911.

What follows next is Harper crawling on his hands and knees, while suffering a heart attack, to grab that 100-dollar bill that Walden left accidentally. This was just one of the scenes that showcased Alan Harper’s love for money.

Charlie Harper And 38 Bucks

Another similar event that is in the show is when Charlie Harper borrows $38 (not $40) from Jon Cryer’s Alan Harper. When Charlie forgets to pay him the money back, Cryer’s character does something very… rude.

Alan Harper goes out and starts taking out the gas from Charlie Harper’s car. Taking the gas for himself, Harper justifies the action by stating that he took the amount of gas that he was owed because Charlie forgot to give him back his $38!

Boner Pills And Expiry Dates

This was plain weird. When some Viagra is on the verge of expiration, Alan Harper doesn’t want it to go to waste. Taking Viagra before it expires, Jon Cryer’s character goes through some shenanigans because he wants his money’s worth.

Nitpicking A Professional Worker

When Alan Harper has gone through several heartbreaks, he invites a pro*titute to his home. Giving her $500, they start kissing while the woman starts talking about how good of a lover Harper is.

Nitpicking her countless times, the scene ends with the pro*titute going from the house while paying back Alan’s money. Telling him to never call her again, Harper goes into his bedroom while being excited and stating “Okay, second base for free!”

The Bathroom Run

When Charlie and Alan Harper are on a double date with two beautiful women, Charlie asks the waiter for the cheque. Jon Cryer’s character casually gets up and states that he has to go to the men’s room for some freshening up.

A doubtful Charlie Sheen follows him to the bathroom where Alan Harper is gargling and pretending to pee. What follows is both characters refusing to pay the cheque as they end up getting stuck in that bathroom for 45 minutes.

This little maneuver cost both the characters money, their time, and the dates as well. This just goes on to how show Alan Harper’s character was shown as a big cheapskate.

Nevertheless, Two and a Half Men ran for 12 seasons and received a rating of 7.1/10 on IMDB and an average of 65% on Rotten Tomatoes. The American sitcom is available to stream on Peacock in the U.S.
